On paper it could have been a quarterback shootout but the only fireworks came from Lafayette Christian as they dominated top quarterback prospect Arch Manning and his Newman Greenies 49-7.
Manning felt the pressure early and often from the Knights defense, which resulted in the Greenies not being able to muster much offensively. Newman had 137 yards of total offense (49 passing, 88 rushing) and struggled to sustain drives as it went 2 for 8 on third-down conversions.
Manning finished the game having completed six of 17 passes for 49 yards, while rushing for 15 yards and the Greenies’ lone touchdown.
Defensively, the Greenies had no answer for the Knights’ offensive attack. LCA scored touchdowns on each of its first seven possessions en route to taking a 49-7 lead with 10:19 remaining in the third.
