During this period of intense racial discord in America, The Upside has looked at some of the black leaders in the community of sports to give us their perspective on these historic events effecting every corner of our nation. Today we welcome Missouri Coach Cuonzo Martin to the show.
Not that long ago the names John Thompson and John Chaney were considered the main black leaders in the sport of college basketball. Today, Mizzou Coach Cuonzo Martin’s name will lead many in that conversation. The ever-humble Martin gives us his perspective on current events and how they are impacting his team. Cuonzo also takes us through his journey from the raw streets of East St. Louis, Illinois to Cal Berkley, battles with cancer and now on to the ‘Show Me State’ taking on a role a leader in the community.
This is the the second part in a series of discussions we’ll have about the racial issues we’re facing in this country; make sure to subscribe to The Upside podcast for future episodes. Select interviews are also available on YouTube.
