URI men’s basketball coach David Cox joins Adam Finkelstein after the NCAA announced that basketball can start its comeback after being derailed by the pandemic.
In this candid discussion, Cox shares how his upbringing in the Washington, DC area shaped his growth, the influence of Georgetown icon John Thompson, how his foundation as an educator shapes his approach on and off the court, the responsibility he takes in leading young men, what fans can expect from his Rhody Rams this upcoming season and much more.

In terms of URI basketball, Rhode had some serious roster holes to fill after the end of the ’19’20 season.
That’s when Coach Cox went to work, and showed why he’s known as “the best closer in the business”.
Now with the return of Fatts Russell and the clearance of transfers Jalen Carey, Malik Martin, the Mitchell twins and others, the new look Rams will be in a position to bolster their depth and play the defense style that Cox has been wanting to play.
The future looks bright in Kingston.
