While it seems like the construction inside the casinos has mostly been completed, the focus continues to be on the Vegas streets.
Las Vegas Blvd near the Strip, as well as surrounding side streets, are being repaved for Formula 1, which will be held in November.
While the repaving is necessary, it has increased traffic delays on and near the Strip, so pack your patience. Walking, as well as utilizing the free trams and the Monorail may be the faster route to get around the Strip.
Pool season continues to be in full effect. If you’re planning a pool day in Vegas, you should plan on getting to the pool early, as they can get crowded. The weather in July is hot! Expect high 90’s into triple digits during the day and not too much relief from the heat at night. Be sure to stay hydrated and use sunscreen if you’re going to be out in the sun.
In the evenings, outdoor areas like The Park outside of New York New York, and the LINQ Promenade, located between the LINQ Casino and the Flamingo Casino, are great places to get some fresh, non-casino air.
If you’re planning a trip to Vegas over the Fourth of July, be prepared for both The Strip and Downtown to be busy and crowded.
This is a very popular time to visit Vegas, due to all of the entertainment and opportunities to watch fireworks. Speaking of fireworks, here’s where you can watch fireworks in the Vegas Valley:

While on the topic of The Plaza, they recently celebrated the grand opening of their new Carrousel Bar, which is the first outdoor gaming bar in Downtown Las Vegas.
A couple of other firsts in Downtown Las Vegas are the new Pink Box Donuts located right by the Carrousel Bar and the non-smoking, social media-friendly Brian Christopher Slots area of The Plaza, which has its own entrance from the main casino.
Oscar’s Steak House also has added a new patio area, overlooking Main Street and the Freemont Street Experience. Along with The Sand Dollar Lounge (which opened in 2022), these new additions certainly spice up one of the oldest properties in Downtown Las Vegas. During the Grand Opening Ceremony on June 8th, Plaza CEO Jonathan Jossel, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Oscar’s Steakhouse Namesake and former Mayor and Attorney to the “Reputed Mob,” Oscar Goodman took the stage. Brian Christopher and the family behind the Las Vegas-based Pink Box Donuts were also on hand to celebrate.
We happened to catch our very first WNBA game and cheered on the Las Vegas Aces. The energetic atmosphere and entertainment are uniquely Vegas at this family-friendly and budget-friendly event.
The team plays inside Michelob Ultra Arena, which is located in Mandalay Bay. Similar to Allegiant Stadium and T-Mobile Arena, there are strict policies as to what’s allowed inside the arena. Check out their website www.aces.wnba.com for more information on these policies, as well as tickets and their July schedule.
