In week one of the Louisiana high school football season, our YurView crew traveled to Lafayette, Louisiana to the home of the reigning Division IV champions, the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights. The Knights, who are led by first year head coach, Jacarade Carter, hosted the Westgate Tigers and the #1 recruit in Louisiana.
The Tigers came into this contest boasting the #1 recruit in Louisiana, in Kayshon Boutte. Boutte, an LSU commit, was poised to be the difference maker in this game. The Tigers also came into this contest with another dangerous wide receiver, Mahkolven Sonn, who is a Kansas State Commit.
However, even with so much talent on the offensive side of the ball, the Tigers were stifled by a Lafayette Academy defense that kept the Tigers out of the end zone all night.
The only score in this game came in the opening drive, as Lafayette Christian, found the end zone with a 13-yard touchdown run by Junior standout, Sage Ryan.
If defense wins championships, then we can expect to see these two teams again in late November as they make a run in the LHSAA playoffs.
