Dan Hurley throws his hands up and down in the air. University of Rhode Island basketball fans in the Ryan Center come to their feet. The Rhody Rams have outright clinched the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship for the first time EVER after an 81 to 54 win over the Dayton Flyers on Friday night.
The Hurley era leading the Rams has been an era of firsts. Last year it was the Rams making it to the NCAA Tournament and winning the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament for the first time since 1999. This time the Rams have accomplished something never done in the 115 years the school has had a basketball program. The 2017-18 URI men’s basketball season continues to seem like a dream. This senior class has made its mark in the Rhode Island record books.
Congratulations to the University of Rhode Island, the program, students and the fans. Rhode Island now sports a 23-4 overall record with a 15-1 record in A-10 play. The Rams now prepare for their last home game of the season on Tuesday night against the St. Joe’s Hawks.
