Fighting hunger is a huge task that the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore takes on with passion and experience. “We are a pretty robust non-profit organization specializing in food acquisition and distribution” states Ruth Jones Nichols, Ph.D., CEO of the organization.
Ruth continues “What we now need to really look at is how to move individuals out of our line. Ideally, if someone comes to us today for food assistance, they shouldn’t have to come back to us a year or two years from now. So our work will continue to build upon what we’ve done well but we also want to look at collaborating with other organizations to address the root causes of hunger and food insecurity.”
