Madison Prep tops the Donaldsonville Tigers Friday night in a second-round Class 3A matchup in the 2020 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Non-Select Prep Classic.
No Fly Zone
Donaldsonville made key scores and held the Chargers out of the end zone for all but one score in the first half.
Randell Oatis struck first for the Tigers with a 5-yard rushing touchdown punched in by the junior.
Madison Prep QB Zeon Chriss scampered in for a 20-yard rushing touchdown, keeping it on the ground to get past the Donaldsonville no fly zone. Missed PATs on both sides meant the score was tied 6-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Tigers QB Treveyon Brown tossed a well-placed ball to Daimar Robinson, making the score 12-6 at the half. Robinson was also instrumental with an interception later in the game, proving his chops on both sides of the ball.
Chargers Change it Up
Behind and thwarted through the air, Madison Prep knew they would need to shake things up if they were going to advance to the next round.
Enter Charger senior RB Brian Chatman with a special teams thriller. His kick return for a Madison Prep touchdown seemed to be the spark the Chargers offense needed. Hakeem King rushed for a two-point conversion right on his heels to put Madison Prep up 14-12.
Chriss got a ball past the Tigers’ defense to an open Tyrell Raby in the end zone.
Both Raby and Ahmaad Lewis were key figures in getting the ball within scoring range for the Chargers – Raby with receptions from Chriss and Lewis with a big interception to set up a Tylon Kent touchdown.
Madison Prep tops Donaldsonville 41-18 to advance to the 3A quarterfinals. They move on to face #1 seeded Jennings next week.
