It was a quarterfinal match-up between Booker T. Washington and Midwest City in Friday’s Ford Game of the Week.
The Hornets broke out on top with a great defensive play. Jaden King stepped in front of a DeAngelo Irvin pass and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown.
BTW led early in the first quarter 7-0. Midwest City fumbled the kickoff and BTW recovered the ball. The Hornets began driving toward a score, but that drive ended when Midwest City’s Brian Wilson, Jr. intercepted a Lathan Boone pass in the end zone.
In the second quarter, Midwest City began to take control after getting that interception. DeAngelo Irvin connected on a 41 yard touchdown pass with Oklahoma State commit Makale Smith. The Bomber extra point attempt was blocked making the score 7-6 in favor of the Hornets. On the Bombers’ next possession, Irvin on a quarterback draw ran 27 yards to put the Bombers on top.
Midwest City’s two point attempt failed so the Bombers led 12 to 7. Then with about a minute left in the first half, the Bombers struck with a 79 yard touchdown pass from Irvin to Artez Young. The extra point attempt was good and Midwest City led 19-7 at the half.
In the third quarter, Midwest City started off with a 68 yard drive that ended with a 19 yard touchdown pass from DeAngelo Irvin to Makale Smith. That ended the scoring. Midwest City defeats Booker T. Washington by a score of 26 to 7.
Midwest City advances to the 6A II semifinals where they will face the defending champion Bixby Spartans.
