Karen is out of her kitchen again and dining out in Hampton Roads. When she’s in beautiful Hampton, The Vanguard Brewpub & Distillery has quickly become one of her favorite “Go To” restaurants no matter what she is craving.
On these hot summer days, no one wants to feel bogged down after a big, heavy meal. Luckily, there are so many options at the Vanguard, that no matter what you’re in the mood for you’ll leave satisfied and itching to return.
On this Dining Out segment, Karen meets with Randy Thomas, the president of the Vanguard, and learns about another fantastic pairing: Smoked Wings and Peated American single-malt whiskey. This smokey, delicious combination is a must try!
You could say this perfect pairing takes years to make. The Peated American Single-Malt, once distilled, is aged for 18-24 months in recycled bourbon barrels.
This gives it’s delicious, smokey flavor. Luckily, you don’t have to wait that long. They have planned in advance and have plenty on hand.
The wings, although a bit quicker to make, are smoked for 4 hours with a combination of oak, apple or cherry wood which gives them an incredible smokey flavor.
They are served with your choice of sauces, but trust us, they are perfect as is. Get them as an appetizer to share, or order up some fries with them for a perfect light meal.
Sadly, due to the odd “wing shortage” in Hampton Roads, their recurring Wing Wednesday event that Randy mentioned, is temporarily on hold (but don’t fret, the wings appetizer is still on the menu!). Check out their social media for updates on Wing Wednesday.
