Heron’s Cove is a crisis center located at Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Healthcare. It is a 23-hour center where anyone experiencing a behavioral health crisis can show up and receive immediate care.
The goal of the center is to stabilize patients there, so that they can send them home to continue their healing journey with their community of family and friends around them.
This also is helpful for someone who has a friend or family member who is experiencing a mental health crisis. Instead of taking someone to the ER, you can bring them to Heron’s Cove to receive specialized mental health care.
Heron’s Cove is also a huge asset to local law enforcement. If they see someone on the street who may be having a mental health crisis, they can bring them to the center instead of the emergency room on a custody order.
When someone comes to the center- they get to see a nurse practitioner, a registered nurse or LPN, they receive medicine if necessary, and they have a wide array of ways to help guide individuals through the crisis they are experiencing.
A big piece of what they do is also care coordination. They want everyone to leave with a plan to maintain their mental health stability. They help with assessment and formulating the perfect plan to fit your needs.
For the people who work there, they love seeing the expeditious change that happens in people from the time they walk in the door, until they are stabilized and able to return home.
