It’s FALL and Hampton Roads is buzzing with excitement! And Ashley is not shy about her love for this time of year.
She got to visit McDonald Garden Center to hang out with their Garden Guru, Mike Westphal and talk about her favorite season!
One plant that is beautiful and perfect for Fall, is Mums! They come in an amazing array of colors, love the cool weather, and they’re perennials! That means that they will come back year after year.
Mike also says that Fall is the best time of year to plant trees and shrubs! That’s because root systems develop wonderfully in the cool and wet weather during the fall. That way by the time it gets really hot outside, your trees and shrubs are already well established, and will flourish even in the rising temperatures.
Another variety of plants that are great in the fall and aesthetically pleasing- are ornamental peppers! The plants are stunning, and they really put on a show when it comes to their colors.
If you want fantastic color that will last through the cold months, look no further than pansies! They get started here in the fall, and bloom all the way through winter into mid-Spring.
Can you talk about Fall without mentioning pumpkins? Absolutely NOT! McDonald Garden Center has their own pumpkin patch, and they even have a grower who only works with them. No wonder their pumpkins look so perfect!
