It’s horse racing season, and our friends Karen and Barry from our sister show Destination Virginia had the pleasure of spending some time at Colonial Downs on race day!
Colonial Downs
Colonial Downs is located in New Kent, Virginia- right in between Williamsburg and Richmond.
Jill Byrne is the Vice President of Racing Operations at Colonial Downs, and she explains that we get two additional weeks of racing this year, as opposed to last year. That’s exciting because there are two more weeks of action!
Betting, Made Easy!
A lot of people are timid when it comes to betting on races, because they don’t know what they are doing or how to bet! But Colonial Downs has plenty of professionals who are ready to hold your hand and guide you through the betting process.
There is also a little bit of luck involved in racing, so don’t be afraid to pick a horse because you love their name or the color they are wearing!
The Analysts
Karen speaks to one of Colonial Downs racing analysts, or someone who tries to figure out what will happen on the track during the races. The analysts try to explain the races to everyone in plain terms that are easy to understand!
It’s a very common misconception that you have to be knowledgable about horse racing to have a good time at Colonial Downs. It’s a whole event with lots of aspects that are fun for everyone.
