Familiarity will be the theme Friday when Catholic New Iberia and Notre Dame meet for the third time in 13 months. The top two teams in Division III last season, it’s very likely these two programs could meet a fourth time with a championship on the line late this season.
The game will be broadcast live on Yurview Louisiana for customers of Cox Communications and will also stream live on Yurview.com.
Familiar Foes
Notre Dame shut out Catholic New Iberia, 37-0, last September, but Catholic New Iberia earned the last laugh, beating Notre Dame in the Division III state championship, 33-16.
Both teams are rebuilding, but at these top-flight football schools, reloading is probably a better word. Notre Dame is 3-0 and has won all its game by double digits. Catholic New Iberia sits at 3-0 as well and has knocked off all of its opponents by at least 20. Last week, Catholic New Iberia defeated St. Thomas Aquinas, 63-7.
This showdown is a great chance for both teams to display their new talent. Notre Dame has 20 new starters. Catholic New Iberia has more experience, particularly on defense, but they also have young stars in key skill positions.
Players to Watch
WR Peter LeBlanc – Catholic New Iberia
The No. 74 prospect in Louisiana for the 2019 class, LeBlanc has been a cornerstone for the Catholia New Iberia offense during his career. A 3-star recruit, he has scored multiple touchdowns in each of the last two weeks.
LeBlanc committed to Louisiana at Lafayette in July.

RB Noah Bourgeois – Notre Dame
Bourgeois stands at only 5-foot-6, but he’s powerful at 155 pounds. Last season, he averaged more than 5.5 yards per rush as a change-of-pace back, and he’s quickly becoming one of the key offensive contributors for Notre Dame in 2018.
Behind the defensive line, LeBlanc is the state champion’s only returning starter. His high-motor and leadership skills are extremely important in the middle of the young Catholic New Iberia defense.
