This month on “Doing More”, we explore how taking care of our planet begins right here at home – in the communities we live, work and play. For the “Doing More” team, our home is Arizona, so we headed over to the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy in Scottsdale to check out the trails and learn how the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy is effecting global preservation through science and research.
The McDowell Sonoran Preserve encompasses more than 30,000 acres of pristine Sonoran Desert and includes more than 215 miles of trails. And what a beautiful sight it was. The McDowell Sonoran Conservancy is doing such impactful work right here at home and we’re honored to help share their efforts and all they’re doing to conserve our lands for generations to come.
Cox Conserves
Speaking of a sustainable future, in 2007 Cox Enterprises launched its national sustainability program, Cox Conserves, and over the past decade, they’ve made meaningful progress in their journey to become a more sustainable company.
Their Cox Conserves goals? To send zero waste to landfill by 2024, and to be carbon and water neutral by 2044. They’re well on their way to meet these ambitious goals, a win-win for both Cox Enterprises and of course, our planet!
And a BIG congratulations to the 2019 national Cox Conserves Hero, Diana Christopulos!
Cox Conserves Heroes honors environmental volunteers who create, preserve or enhance the shared outdoor spaces in our communities. Diana is a dedicated advocate for the environmental community of Roanoke Valley, Virginia. Meet Diana.
Part of the Solution
Heroes truly come in all different forms and for this next group, empowering residents through their Alpha Project Temporary Bridge Shelter program is just one of the amazing ways they work to make a difference.
Wheels of Change serves over 4,000 men, women and children each day through services such as affordable housing, residential substance abuse treatment, mental health counseling, employment training and so much more.
Hope Abound
One common theme you’ll continue to find weaved throughout “Doing More” is that HOPE is alive and well. At Whispering Hope Ranch just east of Payson, Arizona, participating in camps and retreats is something children with physical, developmental or emotional challenges look forward to all year.
Whispering Hope Ranch provides the wonder of nature and animals in a fully accessible, healing environment. A story of hope, love and joy through and through!
Build a Better Future
From the keyboards to the screens, all hands were on deck working together to build computers piece by piece at the Cartwright District Boys & Girls Club. Cox Communications surprised the campus with brand new Kano Computer kits and the students had a wonderful day of learning, building and working collectively to assemble the fully functional computers. Such a great example of how when we work together, anything is possible!
Subscribe on YouTube to watch more inspiring stories like these, because working together for a better tomorrow matters. It’s exciting work, it’s purposeful work and there are so many stories to be told!
