How A Holiday Staycation Can Help Children in Foster Care

By Shana Fischer

The holidays are a time of giving and the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort is all about giving this year… to you and to children in need.

Christmas at the Princess is always a spectacular event with decorations, a new Build-A-Bear area, a train ride, and an ice skating rink, but this year has a wonderful twist. The resort is partnering with COX Charities to support the #LoveUp foundation. The concept came about when local deejay, John Jay VanEs, was texting with his friend, former Arizona Cardinal quarterback and Hall of Famer, Kurt Warner. Warner meant to send the text, “love it”, but it was autocorrected to “Love Up”. VanEs and his on-air partner, Rich Berra, saw the mistake as a way to encourage people to spread love. From there, it grew into a foundation that now provides food, clothing and support to the thousands of kids in foster care. Currently, there are more than 17,000 children in foster care in Arizona.

And now thanks to the Princess Resort, you can help those children in need, and also give yourself a much deserved treat. Book the #LoveUp package and not only will you enjoy perks and gifts during your stay at one of Arizona’s most celebrated and luxurious resorts, but you will also be helping a child enjoy the holiday time as well.

Package rates start at $199 and include: (for more information):

  • $50 resort credit to be used at the award-winning Well & Being spa, resort shops or restaurants, and certain Christmas at the Princess attractions
  • commemorative #LoveUp teddy bear (1 per room)
  • VIP lane passes to some of the Christmas at the Princess attractions

The Princess will donate a portion of every package purchased to the #LoveUp foundation. You can book your stay from November 22, 2017 to December 31, 2017.

And if you don’t have time to stay at the resort, you can still have fun with your family and help #LoveUp. All of the Christmas attractions at the resort are available to the general public. And, the Princess will be donating a portion of fees from the ice skating rink to #LoveUp as well.

Another way you can make life a little easier for kids in foster care is by dropping off unwrapped gifts at the Princess resort. They are collecting toys and clothing. The gift can be for a young child to age 18. #LoveUp suggests if you want to give something for an older teen, consider clothing or other basic necessities, things that will benefit them even when they age out of the system.

Christmas at the Princess is a wonderful tradition for so many families and now it’s starting a new meaningful tradition that will help children who could use a little merry in their lives.
