The workforce Development Board of Hampton Roads along with Opportunity Inc. helps job seekers and businesses be more successful by providing them with important employment related services.
President/CEO of Opportunity Inc., Shawn Avery says Opportunity Inc. oversees federally funded workforce development programs, which assist businesses in accessing qualified workers and job seekers in finding suitable job openings and bolstering their earning power through training.
Avery says the primary age group of job seekers is 18+, but they do have programs for youth. They have has four One Stop Workforce Centers located in Norfolk, Franklin, Suffolk and Portsmouth. These centers help with resume writing, career exploration activities, career developers who can work on a one-on-one basis with job seekers and they offer training services.
In addition to the One Stop Workforce Center, Opportunity Inc. partners with area libraries to offer the Career Access Network. These libraries provide many of the services available at the One Stop Workforce Centers. Job seekers can also go online to the Virtual Career Access Network for services 24/7.
For younger job seekers including students, they have the Youth Career Center of Hampton Roads. Located at the Tidewater Community College Virginia Beach Campus, this program offers career exploration activities, help with resumes, workplace readiness skills and helps job seekers through career fairs.
