Watch all the action of UNO Mavericks sports this season on YurView Omaha (Cox Ch. 1013). Starting January 2nd through March 9th, YurView will broadcast a total of 20 UNO sports events including men’s and women’s basketball and men’s hockey.
Men’s Basketball
UNO Mavericks men’s basketball competes in the Summit League, and 2018-19 marks its fourth year with full postseason eligibility as members of the league.
The Mavericks finished non-conference play at 6-7 and on a three-game win streak, with victories at Idaho, vs. UC Santa Barbara and at Rice. The non-conference schedule included games against five Power Five schools: Minnesota, Colorado, Iowa State, Arizona State, and Oregon.
Leading scorers include senior guard Zach Johnson who is averaging over 18 points and 3 rebounds per game. Junior guard JT Gibson is contributing 13.5 points and senior guard KJ Robinson just over 10 points per game. Defensively, sophomore forward Matt Pile is hauling in an impressive 7 rebounds per game along with 9 points per game.
Senior Zach Jackson was a second-team All-Summit selection in 2017-18 and a first-team Preseason All-Summit pick for 2018-19. Jackson is the fourth-best scorer in the league with 18.4 points per game entering conference play.
Jackson became Omaha’s 39th 1,000-point scorer in school history Nov. 6 at Minnesota. Entering Omaha’s Dec. 28 game vs. Denver, he needs 59 rebounds to become the 12th player in school history with at least 1,000 points and 500 boards.

Women’s Basketball
The Mavericks women’s team is currently 5-7 and just getting underway with Summit League play. The women’s starting five has had a lot of new faces this year – Rayanna Carter, Elena Pilakouta, Josie Filer and Sophie Johnston are all newcomers. Mariah Murdie, another newcomer, has also seen significant time off the bench.
The leading contributors this season include junior guard Rayanna Carter averaging 9.7 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. Freshman center Elena Pilakouta has 9 points, 5.6 rebounds per and 2.2 assists per game. Sophomore guard Claire Killian has added 9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. Freshman forward Josie Filer is leading the Mavericks defense with 8.3 rebounds per game.

Men’s Hockey
Mavericks hockey is currently 4-10-2 overall and 2-5-1 in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). The NCHC is considered the best conference in Division I college hockey.
Throughout the second half of the season, the Mavericks will be trying to secure home ice advantage for the first round of the NCHC Playoffs.
The Mavericks feature 10 seniors who are trying to conclude their careers with a trip to the NCHC’s Frozen Faceoff in St. Paul, Minn. Among the top players so far this season are Mason Morelli with 9 goals/9 assists, Fredrik Olofsson with 7 goals/11 assists and Zach Jordan with 5 goals/9 assists.
The four televised games against North Dakota features a perennial power and one of the top schools in college hockey.
