After opening the playoffs with dominating victories, No. 4 seeded Omaha Westside will host fifth-seeded Millard West in the Nebraska Class A quarterfinals on Friday.
The playoff matchup will be broadcast live on Yurview for customers of Cox Communications and will also stream live on Yurview.com.
Going Further than a Year Ago
Each of these programs won playoff games last season. As the No. 11 seed, Millard South upset Lincoln High, 21-19, and Omaha Westside edged Pius X in a matchup of the No. 8 and 9 seeds.
But both Omaha Westside and Millard South fell during the quarterfinals in blowout fashion. Each team would like to erase that 2017 memory. If this is a close one — as it appears on paper — both teams will accomplish that goal, and one of these squads will be within a game of the Class A championship tilt.
Omaha Westside and Millard South are each title worthy, as they come into this week with records of 9-1 and 8-2, respectably.
The lone loss of the season for Omaha Westside came against Millard South in the final week of the regular season. Omaha Westside fell by just a point, 14-13.
Millard West lost to Burke, who is the defending Class A state champions, in Week 2, and Lincoln East three weeks ago. Omaha Westside defeated Lincoln East in the first round last week.
Omaha Westside and Millard West didn’t play each other this season and haven’t squared off since the first round of the 2014 Class A playoffs.

QB Tristan Gomes – Millard West
Gomes shined during the first round against Creighton Prep. He threw two long passing touchdowns and ran for another score in the 31-14 victory.

RB Avante Dickerson – Omaha Westside
The sophomore scored touchdowns in each of his team’s last six regular-season victories. That includes returning an interception to the end zone versus Creighton Prep on Sept. 20.
In the first round last week, Dickerson intercepted another pass and ripped off a 40-yard run. Both of those plays set up Omaha Westside touchdowns.
