It was a case of two nearly immovable objects meeting when Elkhorn South and Millard North took the field Thursday night at Buell Stadium in Millard, NE.
Millard North has been struggling to get a win this year after being billed as a preseason top-10 prospect. And they’re not alone: Elkhorn South has needed some serious last-minute mojo to pull off victories this season, and sometimes their efforts still fall short.
QB Dilan Krause came in this week for the Storm and led Elkhorn South to a 21-14 victory over the Mustangs.
The Storm scored late in the first quarter off a Trevor Winterstein 18 yard TD run.

Then in the 3rd Quarter, Ben Warren opens it up with a huge 73-yard run that led to another score. Although he didn’t run it in himself, the juke that almost extended Warren’s run is worth a watch (about :39 in)
Elkhorn South added their final TD on a 40 pass from Krause to Blake Daly.
The Comeback that Might Have Been
Millard North fought back in the fourth. It started with a long run by Jimmy Quaintance to move the Mustangs up to their own 47. Quaintance proceeded to seal the deal on a pass to Blake Closman for Millard North’s first score of the game.
It felt like a rally as the Mustangs reversed a turnover on downs with an interception by Ben Wilczewski. With a minute to go, Quaintance connected with with Ben Weindel in a 32-yard pass to bring the score to 21-13. The PAT was good, but the Mustangs were unable to ride that momentum to a win with such little time left.
Elkhorn South advances to 2-1 while Millard North goes to 0-3.
