The Feinstein Foundation and Mystic Aquarium recently provided 50 lucky Southern New Englanders free access to the aquarium including an advance screening of an episode of Discovery Channels Shark Week.
Throughout late June and July, Cox Media and YurView published educational video blog posts containing a contest entry for the Mystic prize. Feinstein scholars appeared in the blog videos asking questions of Mystic Shark Expert Tori Davis. Davis answered the questions just outside Mystic’s Shark Lagoon; a fascinating exhibit containing four species of sharks.
Mystic’s state-of-the-art theater was the location of the Shark Week episode screening. Many of the contest winners are rabid fans of Shark Week and were incredibly excited to get the chance to see the screened episode before anyone else.
One of the highlights, especially for the younger fin fans, was the Mystic Shark Encounter exhibit. The shallow pool allows for easy reach of the sharks living in the exhibit. All visitors need to do is reach out, submerge their hands, and they can pet and feed these docile, bottom-dwelling sharks; just one piece of what proved to be an exciting and educational day for the contest winners.
In his continuing search for new and exciting educational opportunities, Alan Shawn Feinstein has now made it possible for area folks to become shark experts. The Feinstein Foundation is offering the opportunity for people to win tickets to see a screening of the premier episode of “Shark Week” at Mystic Aquarium before it has aired on the Discovery Channel.
