This week brought two 4A schools, Edna Karr High School and Mcdonogh 35 High School to battle in Tad Gormley Stadium. In their match up, the Mcdonogh 35 Roneagles aimed to avenge their last-season playoff loss to Karr.
Karr scored the first two touchdowns of the game with 3:44 left in the first quarter, following it shortly with another with 0:59 left. The McDonogh Roneagles answered in the second quarter, getting themselves on the board and pulling the score to 14-6.
After a defensive battle, the Karr Cougars scored again, leaving a halftime score of 21-6. The third quarter brought yet another Cougar touchdown with 4:08 left. Following a long return, McDonogh 35 running back Eddie Tillman III scored a touchdown, followed by a two point conversion.
The score was 28-20 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, a touchdown by Cougars’ running back Ahmad Antoine sealed the win. The final score was 35-20. Following this game, Karr advances 5-1, while Mcdonogh 35 falls to 4-2.
In a run heavy game, the first and last runs of the game, both completed by Antoine, formed and secured the lead that won the Cougars the game. In addition, Roneagle safety Joseph Foucha ran two rushing touchdowns, along with a two point conversion. Foucha avoided penalties on his first run. In between Foucha’s runs, Roneagle running back Eddie Tillman III scored the second of the team’s three touchdowns.
Player of the Game
Ahmad Antoine, a Cougar’s running back, had a huge impact on the game. Antoine alone completed over 200 of Karr’s 380 rushing yards, and 412 total yards. Antoine completed two touchdown runs, including both an 88 yard run, and the game winning 19 yard run. This last run brought the score to 35-20 with 0:32 left in the game.
