This week, the United States government shutdown reached its one-month mark. Always caring for its community, the San Diego Sockers want to help those effected by the shutdown.
The Sockers announced via Twitter on Wednesday that the team will offer free tickets to any federal employee or contract worker to the Sockers’ next home game on Feb. 15. On that Friday night, San Diego will be hosting the Tacoma Stars.
Additionally, one free ticket for a child eight years old or younger is available to any government employee for the same game.
#GovernmentShutdown free ticket deal still in place as long as the shutdown remains in effect. We HOPE the government will be open on 2/15, but if not, federal employees & contract workers affected come to the match on us. https://t.co/B5FzGEYv2e

This will be the second time the Sockers offer this promotion. Federal employees also landed free tickets to the matchup against the Turlock Express on Jan. 20.
The Sockers marketing team released a statement prior to that promotional night.
“So many families in our community are suffering right now, and it is our goal to knock down the wall between making ends meet and treating the family to a fun night out,” said Sockers Chief Marketing Officer Craig Elsten according to NBC San Diego. “With Furloughed Workers Night, we want to give affected families a great chance to relax and enjoy a couple hours worry-free as they watch the Sockers go for another big win.”
Tickets are on sale now by calling 866-799-GOAL or visit SDSockers.com for tickets, game and promotional schedule, along with the latest team updates.
Ironically, the Sockers-Stars matchup on Feb. 15 will also be notable because it will be Landon Donovan’s first game in a Sockers uniform. Donovan, who is the No. 1 goal-scorer in U.S. Men’s national team and MLS history, reportedly joined the Sockers on Wednesday.
The Sockers sit in first place of the Pacific Division with a 10-1 record. Prior to their next home game on Feb. 15, they will visit the Ontario Fury on Feb. 7 and then the Turlock Express on Feb. 8.
