It’s been called the world’s largest pop-culture celebration, and it’s that time of year again, when thousands of people from all over descend on San Diego for the annual International Comic-Con Convention. What started out as a small comic book festival has become an international event with tickets selling out months in advance. The 4-day event has become a phenomenon that continues to evolve every year. From comic books, to collectibles, star studded panels, and fan interactive experiences the Con not only takes over the San Diego Convention center, but spills out into the streets of downtown and beyond.
There are over 135,000 people expected to attend this year’s convention and with so many cosplayers in all ages, shapes and sizes it’s easy to run into your favorite superhero.
This year the big movie panels are Blade Runner 2049, Stephen Spielberg’s adaptation of the video game novel Ready Player One, and the next two DC Comics Films, Justice League and Aquaman. As for TV panels, the usual players, HBO’s Game of Thrones, and AMC’s The Walking Dead with fans waiting in line for hours to get to the infamous Hall H.
Comic-Con International will be staying in San Diego through 2021, so if you aren’t one of the lucky badge holders this year, make sure you start planning your trip for Comic-Con 2018.
