Trying to keep up with current trends or changing seasons can feel like a daunting task. Not only for you, but for your wallet. Personally, I love to add new things to my beauty regime, however, I do not like to spend a fortune. And let’s be honest, some days, trends are just too much to make work and a classic look is best.
Although the internet is a great resource, sometimes it’s best to find a real life professional and ask some important beauty questions.
So I decided to chat with Kelly Wisniewski, a well respected professional make-up artist, who has worked everything from television shows to runways. I got the scoop on how to stay fabulous on a budget no matter what the season. Plus, she even joined us on the show and shared a few secrets on how to look younger. You can view her segment below.
Q: KELLY, IS IT POSSIBLE TO STAY STYLISH ON A BUDGET?
A: Absolutely! I have always believed it is the tools and technique that are more important than the products. Regardless of what you spend on the product, if you don’t know how to use them properly, it’s a wast of money either way. However, being stylish has more to do with creating your own personal look and being true and consistent about it. For instance, I have always been known for wearing a bold lip. I love the look on me and try to make it a part of my style no matter the season. Find that signature “look” for yourself and go with it; whether it be in your clothing or your makeup application.
Q: IS IT NECESSARY TO CHANGE MY BEAUTY ROUTINE EVERY SEASON?
A: I don’t think so. Making small changes to stay relevant like trying a new blush, a trendy top, or even fresh new fragrance, is enough to put a pep in any girls step. So if you’re looking to add something new for the season, consider keeping it simple and personalized to your own needs and style, regardless of trend.
Q: WHAT TYPE OF PRODUCT IS THE EASIEST TO ADD TO OUR FALL BEAUTY STAPLES THAT WON’T BREAK THE PIGGY BANK?
LIPS! Adding a new lip color for the season is an easy and affordable way to change your look without overdoing it. This fall season you will see plums and rose golds for lips. Both are pretty, but find the one that best fits with your style. If you are not sure what looks best on your skin tone, consider visiting a department store or beauty shop. They often have beauty experts who can help match your perfect shade, even if you don’t purchase the exact product. It’s a great way to get good advice and try various shades of color on.
Q: IF I AM NEW TO THE BEAUTY AND MAKEUP GAME, WHERE DO YOU SUGGEST I START?
A: There are two great ways to get started on knowing more about makeup and application.
1) Try joining a makeup subscription “club”. These are subscriptions that you can receive every month for a minimal cost. They send you either full sized or deluxe samples of products so you can find things you either never knew existed, or, would have never thought to try.
2) Get a makeup lesson with a professional. I personally like to give lessons at my clients homes to see where they apply their makeup, where they organize their products, and understand their time for application and lifestyle. All of these things are important so I am giving the best information for the client. Not everyone has the same needs. Plus, it’s a great way for me to discuss ideal colors and products for their specific needs.
Q: IF I AM NOT A BEAUTY TREND KIND OF PERSON, WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR KEEPING MY LOOK CLASSIC YEAR ROUND?
A: I think less is more! A simple eye, clean skin, and a well shaped brow can never be wrong! Classic never goes out of style. So consider black mascara, a pretty lip color, blushed cheeks, and shaped brow, to make your look clean and classic.
