Monica talks with Jim Dennis of Farm Phoenix, to get some gardening tips at the Uptown Farmers Market. Dennis says the climate here can be a challenge because there is a 365 day growing season. Things can be planted every day. The challenge is knowing when and what to plant. Dennis says now is the time to plant peppers, tomatoes, melons, bean, corn, okra and squash. Some of the produce at the Farm Phoenix booth was sweet and hot peppers, a variety of tomatoes and eggplants.
Dennis said his best tip for gardeners is to take care of the soil and the plants. Classes are offered at the market on subjects from getting started, container gardens, herbs and more. Jim Dennis said both beginners and experienced gardeners can learn.
