Watch a full game replay of Pilgrim vs. Narragansett (Rhode Island) high school football- Friday, November 1, 2019.
On paper, tonight’s matchup looked like it was going to be a classic late-season thriller with both Pilgrim and Narragansett coming into the matchup unbeaten. The Pilgrim Patriots had other ideas and had no intention of following that script.
The tone was set early as Pilgrim would capitalize on an early turnover, leading to the game’s first score. It was all downhill sledding from there as the Patriots would dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and defeated the Mariners 48-13.
Highlights:
Quarterback Mike Borges ran for 135 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries while Demitri Ayers had 120 on 16 carries and three TDs. Borges also threw for 3 scores.
The Patriot defense proved to be stout as well as Narragansett’s Air Raid offense was stuck on the tarmac all night.
The win locks up the No. 1 seed in the D-III playoffs for Pilgrim, while the Mariners will need to win next week to clinch the No. 2 spot. The playoffs start in two weeks and with Friday’s win, it’s clear who the favorite is.
