He was one of the most prolific pure shooters in all of college basketball, and still holds the Atlantic 10 record for 3 pointers made from his time playing for his dad at the University of Rhode Island.
After an 11 year pro overseas, Jimmy Baron Jr, is retiring from the hardwood as he moves on to a new career at the prestigious IMG Academy as a skills coach. Baron recently spoke to Adam Finkelstein about his basketball journey.
While many basketball fans may think of success only through the lens of an NBA career, Baron was quite successful for over a decade and became just as well known for his 3-point prowess overseas as we was in Kingston.
Playing in other countries isn’t always easy, and Jimmy shares some unique experiences & challenges while playing in Turkey, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Lithuania and Russia while he was also starting a young family.
URI fans will be interested to hear when Jimmy discusses his working relationship with his dad while being a mentor to his brother Billy Baron and how his legendary work ethic took him from an unrecruited prospect at Bishop Hendricken to the Atlantic 10’s all time leader in 3 pointers.
