Watch a full game replay of high school football: Omaha Westside vs. Elkhorn South (Nebraska) – Friday, Oct. 11, 2019.
A week after scoring 42 points in the first quarter, Omaha Westside put 28 on the scoreboard in the first quarter this week en route to a 38-7 victory over Elkhorn South. In a game featuring two of Class A’s top ten teams, few expected the scoreline to be as lopsided as it ended.
Westside quarterback Cole Payton threw three touchdowns to three different receivers in the first frame. Four-star prospect Avante Dickerson was on the receiving end of one and added an interception return for a touchdown to round out the four-touchdown quarter for Westside. Junior wide receiver Koby Bretz and senior Grant Tagge hauled in the other two scoring passes from Payton.
Westside added a field goal before halftime to make it 31-0.
The Elkhorn South offense struggled for much of the night, but found some success with two long drives in the second quarter. Each, however, ended with missed field goals by Brian Cross.
After the break, Payton directed the Westside offense to another score, capping it with a 27-yard strike to Bretz. Payton finished with 308 yards on 10 of 16 passing. Bretz hauled in four catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns while also intercepting a pass in the endzone late in the fourth quarter.
With the running clock rule in effect at 38-0 in favor of Westside, each team possessed the ball only once in the third quarter.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Elkhorn South’s Blaze Doxzon found the end zone to break up the shutout for Westside.
Westside moves to 6-1 on the season and improves to 3-0 in district play.
