It only took one game for Pinnacle’s newly minted 5-star QB, Spencer Rattler, to show why he’s widely considered to be the top high school quarterback in the nation.
As expected, Rattler came out firing in the first game of the season, throwing three TD’s in the first half of Pinnacle’s season opener, a 59-33 win over Gilbert Perry. The Pioneers were dominant right out of the gate, scoring on every one of their first-half possessions.
For the game, the future Oklahoma Sooner finished with 338 yards in the air (on 20 for 31 passing) and 4 TD’s, adding 58 rushing yards and another TD on the ground.

While Pinnacle was too much to handle in Game 1, there were some clear bright spots for Perry. Chubba Purdy got his first start under center for the Pumas, replacing his brother and current Iowa St. QB Brock. Purdy completed 21 of 35 attempts for 289 yards and 3 TD’s and added 51 yards on 9 carries. He was intercepted twice by Quinton Powell early in the game.
FINAL STATS:
Spencer Rattler (Pinnacle): 20 for 31 passing, 338 yards, 4 TDs; 5 rushes for 58 yards, 1 TD.
Chubba Purdy (Perry): 21 for 35 passing, 289 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTs; 9 rushes for 51 yards.
Quinton Powell (Pinnacle): 1 catch, 51 yards, 1 TD; 2 interceptions.
