How quickly things can turn. After the New Orleans Saints finally snapped their losing streak by beating the New York Jets last week and getting Alvin Kamara back on the field, the Saints took hit. Head coach Sean Payton tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Sunday’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will take the place of Peyton on the field this weekend. Allen, who has been the head coach for the Raiders, will coach for the first time with the Saints without Peyton on the sidelines with him.
The last time the Saints and Buccaneers faced off, quarterback Jameis Winston was facing off against his former team in the Ceasars Superdome on Halloween night. The Saints picked up the 36-27 upset win, but lost Winston to a season-ending injury.
As the NFC playoff picture stands now, the Saints are on the outside looking in with a 6-7 record. They sit third in the NFC South and are only one game out of playoff contention. Tampa Bay is atop the NFC South with a 10-3 record and would be the second seed in the NFC if the season ended today.
