Overview
In this week’s Ford Game of the week, the Putnam City West Patriots take on the Putnam City Pirates in a non-league contest. Both teams are looking for their first win of the season. The Pirates come into the contest with a 0-1 record after a 31-6 loss to Putnam City North. The Patriots opened the season with a 43-20 loss to Guthrie.
Matchup History
This will be the 50th meeting between these two schools. Putnam City leads the series 27-22 and beat the Patriots last year 14-10.
Players (and Coaches) to Watch
For Putnam City, new head coach Carter Whitson returns to Oklahoma looking to rebuild a Pirates team that finished 1-9 overall last season. Whitson was QB of the 2003 State Champion Shawnee football team, an assistant under Kevin Wilson at Indiana and most recently, head coach at Martinsville, Indiana high school.
Pirates senior WR Adrian Scott is tall and very fast. He can play both sides of the ball but lines up primarily on offense.
Craig Maynard is in his 2nd year as head coach for Putnam City West. Prior to PCW, he coached at Sowler, Kansas. One interesting side note – Maynard played football at Homestead Christian in Cupertino, California, where Steve Jobs went to high school.
Keep an eye on Patriots junior WR Dakota McAroy. He scored 2 TD’s last week against Guthrie, and he also plays third base and pitcher for the Patriots baseball team. McAroy has never played high school football before this season.
