It was a Halloween matchup between the Union Redskins and the Southmoore Sabercats at Moore Schools Stadium Thursday night. Union would turn in a dominant performance. In the first quarter, Union had 2 four-play drives both resulting in touchdowns.
The first one came at the 6:54 mark on a one-yard keeper by sophomore quarterback Rovaughn Banks. It was 7-0. Then at the 2:44 mark Banks ran 22 yards to put the Redskins ahead 13-0.
In the second quarter, senior running back Avante Wilkins ran 65 yards on a one-play possession. Union led 20-0. That was followed by touchdown passes from Banks to senior wide receiver Kyler Pearson and junior wide receiver Shea Dan. Kansas commit Pearson’s catch came on a 26-yard play while Dan’s went for nine. A field goal by Stefan Forbes made the halftime score 37-0.
In the third quarter, a 29-yard pass play to Donavyn Thompson made it 43-0. Senior Jonathan Edwards had a 63-yard touchdown run to make it 50-0 after three quarters.
A fourth-quarter pass from senior quarterback JD Geneva to Desmin McDaniels went for 20 yards and a touchdown. The final score was Union 57, Southmoore 0.
Highlights:
Rovaughn Banks was the Ford Player of the Game. He rushed 5 times for 50 yards and two touchdowns. He was 4-4 passing for 93 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Union moves to 4-2 in 6A-I District 2 and goes to 5-4 overall putting themselves in a good position to make the playoffs. Southmoore falls to 1-5 in district and 1-8 overall.
