Nothing beats Fall in New England! Crisp temperatures, gorgeous foliage, and perfect weather for parades and outdoor activities blend to create a full season of fun. Who doesn’t love reaching up and plucking nature’s perfect snack right off the tree? (Of course, consuming it candied or baked into a pie might be even better!)
While “Locally New England” celebrates the many opportunities to party and enjoy the outdoors before the cold sets in, October is also widely recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Hosts Meredith Gorman, and Joe Guarneri bring you the latest on what the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation has planned for this October.
Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation: Evolving and Growing
Many New Englanders are well aware of the impactful work the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation has accomplished over the past 20 years. The foundation continues to evolve, now expanding its focus to all types of cancer. Gloria Gemma’s Communications & Development Manager, Carol Donnelly, explains, that they’ve “expanded into all cancers because there’s nothing (else) like Gloria Gemma for people in our region, so we provide free heeling programs and support services that allow people to get through their cancers and beyond their cancers and just live healthier.”
Carol also shares with Joe and Meredith a preview of some of the foundation’s key events planned for the month, and the important distinction between cancer treatment and cancer rehab. The foundation ensures patients receive tremendous rehabilitation support on their journey to recovery.
Empire Auto Group: Torres Family Legacy
“Locally New England” also drops in to Empire Hyundai in Fall River this edition to learn a bit about the Torres family, whose Empire Auto Group has been in business for 41 years. Rick Torres, the Group’s Dealer Principal, has always loved Massachusetts’ South Coast area and has made sure his business and family stay deeply connected to the community they call home.
The Empire culture is centered around family values. Rick learned the business from his dad and has trained his sons, Trevor and Tyler, who now manage the dealerships. He made sure he started his boys out “at the bottom. They were washing cars. They were cleaning poison ivy on the lot, weed whacking. They were doing everything but walking around with a suit and tie on in the dealerships, and I’m very proud of who they are today.”
Autumnfest: Northern Rhode Island’s Salute To Fall
If you know Joe Guarneri, you know he loves festivals (especially for the food!). This Fall edition of “Locally New England” previews the annual Autumnfest Celebration with Joe Callahan, the festival’s Media and PR Coordinator. Taking place during Columbus Day weekend at World War II Veterans Memorial Park in Woonsocket, RI, the three-day festival is Northern Rhode Island’s largest fall event. Joe Callahan shares what you and your family can expect, including live entertainment, vendors, and, of course, delicious bites along Food Row—something Joe is already marking his calendar for!
DAI Restore: Community is their Business
Part of New England’s autumn charm is its unpredictable weather. One day you’re enjoying a stroll on the beach, and the next you’re battling wind, rain, or even a hint of snow. This unpredictability means that, at some point, you might need home or business restoration. “Locally New England” visited DAI Restore in Coventry, RI, and spoke with Chief Operating Officer Maxx Gervasio.
DAI Restore deals with more than just weather damage. Whether it’s smoke, mold, water, crime scene cleanup or any of the other nightmares that might attack your business establishment or home, DAI aspires to be a valued member of the community ready to lend a hand. “Community is a really big part of our family-owned company. Without the community, we wouldn’t be able to have a company,“ Gervasio explains.
DAI is deeply involved in the community, participating in fun events and supporting charities. From car shows to food collections and raffles benefitting wounded veterans, their focus on giving back is integral to the company’s values. Gervasio wants folks to understand, “We’re here for fun. We’re here for disaster. We’re here!”
Mainely Tubs: Say Goodbye to Stress
While on the road, “Locally New England” also dropped in on the folks at Mainely Tubs in Cranston. New to Rhode Island, the business sells health and relaxation in the form of hot tubs, swim spas and saunas.
Everyone’s looking for a way to unwind and escape daily anxieties, but time and schedules often get in the way. When you have a hot tub or sauna in your home, relaxation becomes much more attainable.
While visiting, Todd Campbell, Mainely Tubs’ District Sales Manager, announced an exciting giveaway—a Rhode Island first responder will be awarded a hot tub in honor of National First Responder Day at the end of October. “As a company we couldn’t think of a better option of a group of people to give (to) than first responders …. We want to make sure we can provide them with an opportunity to sit back and relax in a time when they really don’t get to do that a lot,” Campbell stated.
To enter a first responder, see the QR Code on the Mainely Tubs segment in “Locally New England.”
