As the high school football season continues, each game becomes even more important for the top teams in the country. And huge matchups continue to populate the schedule.
Here’s a look at 10 of the top headlines entering another week of the high school football season, with a full slate of games scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 27-29.
1. Mater Dei knocks off IMG
It was a battle of national powerhouses this past Friday when IMG Academy (Fla.) traveled to take on Mater Dei (Calif.). IMG Academy entered the matchup with the No. 1 ranking in the USA Today Super 25 poll. However, it didn’t leave with it.
Mater Dei took down IMG Academy, 28-24, to ascend to the top spot in the Super 25 rankings.
Mater Dei quarterback Bryce Young, a 5-star recruit (per the 247sports composite rankings) who is committed to USC, scored a go-ahead touchdown run with just more than a minute to go to lift his team to the huge victory.

Mashburn committed to Memphis on Sept. 22. The 3-star recruit (per the 247sports composite rankings) will join his older brother, Cade, who is a redshirt freshman linebacker for the Tigers.
Mashburn chose the Tigers over offers from several other schools, including Iowa State, Nevada, North Texas and Texas State.

It’s not the first record that Kargman broke this season. Earlier this year, he threw eight touchdown passes, a South Jersey record, in a win over Camden Catholic (N.J.) on Sept. 8.

Kayvon Thibodeaux (Oaks Christian School, Thousand Oaks, Calif.) is the No. 1 overall player in the 247sports composite rankings. But the elite defensive end hasn’t yet made a college decision.
However, Thibodeaux should be getting closer to making a decision in the coming months, as he is currently in the process of taking his official visits.
This past Saturday, Thibodeaux visited Alabama. He previously visited Florida State on Sept. 3.
Thibodeaux has several other visits coming up soon, including Florida (Oct. 6) and Oregon (Oct. 13).
