Sean Shelby’s 67-yard touchdown pass to Markel August with 2:05 left gave East St. John a thrilling 34-30 upset victory at Central in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.
“I saw it all the way,” Shelby said to The Advocate. “I watched him (August) catch it and run to the end zone.”
Shelby finished with 347 yards and four touchdowns. August amassed nine receptions for 180 yards and three touchdowns.
East St. John’s Rydell Jackson hauled in a 58-yard reception in the fourth quarter.
After mustering up this magical victory, East St. John believes they can be this postseason’s Cinderella.
“I love my team,” East St. John coach Brandon Brown said to The Advocate. “We’re going to rewrite our story.”
