Watch a full game replay of Chaparral vs. Liberty (Arizona) high school football – Friday, November 1, 2019.
A lot of times, the build-up to a great game never materializes. In the case of Chaparral vs Liberty, it did…and more. The Firebirds of Chaparral go into next week’s playoff with a ton of momentum after their 6th straight win, on a last-play with no time on the clock win against the Liberty Lions, who must now regroup as they head to the playoffs.
Ohio State commit Jack Miller hit wideout Sean Parker in the back of the end zone on the game’s final play to secure the victory.
Parker, along with starting cornerback Kamdan Hightower, was pressed into duty when two of Chaparral’s starting wideouts were out with injuries.
Hightower caught 4 of Miller’s passes for 61 yards. Miller, who was injured and missed four games in the middle of the season, ended the game with 23 completions out of 39 attempts for 240 yards, 3 TDs, and an interception.
His favorite target, Cal commit Tommy Christakos, had 8 catches for 92 yards, including a one-handed circus catch for a TD late in the first half to pull Chaparral to a 21-21 tie at the half.
Liberty played a tough, physical game, forcing three turnovers, including a fumble on the second-half kickoff that led to a score.
Lion’s senior QB Jonah Guevara led the Lions with 2 TD passes and rushed for 127 yards on 16 carries. Freshman Zaccheus Cooper rushed for 134 yards on 17 carries and 2 TDs. Tight end Carter Hills caught one of the TDs from Guevara and had a great double tip catch and run to set up another.
Chaparral prevailed 36-35, but both teams could be proud of finishing the season strong. The new season, the playoffs, begins next week. Don’t be surprised if the Firebirds and Lions meet again.
