It was the 71st Battle Line Rivalry between the Central Wildcats and the Denham Springs Yellow Jackets in Louisiana’s GameTime game of the week and it was a good one. Central’s Fernando Perez put back to back kicks threw the uprights to give Central a 6-0 lead, then Parker Evans caught a pass from Samuel Kenerson to put the Wildcats up 13-0. Denham’s defense would gain control but not till Central would give them all they got.
Hunter Bond caught a 3-yard pass and Denham was on the board. Denham would go on to score the next 5 out of 7 scores. It was 21-14 Central at the half. Central only had 38 yards of rushing at the half but 257 passing on the arm on Samuel Kenerson who came in the game banged up. Denham was balanced at the half, 106 rushing and 116 passing from their solid QB Luke Lunsford, but 2 turnovers put the Yellow Jackets in the down column.
The rushing attack of Denham heated up in the second-half lead by our player of the game Treveon Muse. Treveon ended the game with 231 yards rushing and 2 TDs. The biggest play came in the middle of the 4th quarter when Davion Nassri came up with a huge athletic interception of Kenerson. Lunsford lead Denham down the field with some keep passes while Muse did the groundwork. The Yellow Jackets would put 3 more points on the board when Jose Ortega knocked in a difficult angled kick with less than 2 minutes on the clock.
With an impressive Quarterback under center and a talented back in the backfield, Denham could be peaking at the right time heading into the playoffs. These 2 teams put on an entertaining game tonight and Coach Conides squad treated their fans to some exciting football and Battle Line Rivalry victory.
