Villanova’s Omari Spellman was named the BIG EAST’s Freshman of the Year, averaging nearly 11 points and 8 rebounds a game for the likely #1 seed Wildcats. But before he stepped foot on Villanova’s campus he was putting in the work to be great. Even back in 2016 you could see that Spellman was driven to defy critics and add more dimension to his game.
“I’m just trying to be competitive and coachable,” he said at the National Prep School Invitation Tournament in Providence, Rhode Island in 2016. And by the looks of his career so far in Philly, he’s done just that.
