The Virginia International Tattoo is a military tattoo that began in 1997 and is the signature event of the Virginia Arts Festival. It takes place annually in Norfolk, Virginia, and is an exhibition of military bands, pipes and drums, military drill teams, dancers and more!
Musician First Class Brian Kloppenburg joined Quincy and Ashley to tell them more about all things Virginia International Tattoo.
The word “Tattoo” isn’t what you might think- it comes from an old tradition where drummers would play and it would tell people to “turn off the tap.” Then you’d see a parade of soldiers heading back to their quarters. That parade became known as the Tattoo! Today, a Tattoo is where military performance units from all over join together to put on an epic show.
This year’s Tattoo is taking place April 20-23rd at the Norfolk Scope. This year you can expect performers from about six different countries. You will see performers from every branch of the US military, as well as performance units from all over the world.
This year’s theme is “Salute to Military Families.” All of the performances will be somewhat tailored to this theme.
Our friend Brian is a pianist that performs in the fe, and we can not wait to see him perform!
