One of the top high school football players in Oklahoma made his college choice known this week when Owasso four-star wide receiver Cole Adams pledged to play for Alabama.
Adams, who’s final three teams were Alabama, Oklahoma and Arkansas, made the announcement on social media.
“First, I want to give thanks to God,” said Adams on his Twitter page. “Without Him, this would not be possible. Second, I want to thank my family, friends, coaches, mentors and teammates for all of your support throughout my life and through the recruiting process. I truly appreciate each and every one of you.
Alabama is a perennial national title contender. The Crimson Tide have won six national titles in the past 13 years. The last Tulsa-area player to play for Alabama was former McLain star Josh Jacobs, who enjoyed a successful college career and is currently a running back for the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders.
The speedy receiver, who has been timed at 10.65 seconds in the 100-meter dash, had collected more than a dozen offers from high Power-5 programs, including several in the SEC.
Adams spoke to YurView about the recruiting process recently at a press conference where he stated he wanted to make his college decision before his senior season.
“I’m managing it good,” said Adams of all the recruiting attention. “It’s been really fun. I’m new to all this, but I’m getting used to it.”
“I’m planning on committing before the season so I can focus on the season and my team,” Adams added.
Adams is currently ranked as the fourth-best player in Oklahoma’s Class of 2023 by Prep Redzone Oklahoma and the number two receiver behind Booker T. Washington’s Micah Tease.
The 5-10, 175-pound senior is coming off a stellar junior season where he helped lead the Rams to the 6A-I quarterfinals. He recorded 55 catches for 913 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also returned five kicks for scores, three on kickoffs and two on punts. In a season-ending, 41-40 playoff loss to Broken Arrow, Adams scored three touchdowns, including two on kickoff returns.
Adams and the Rams open their season Thursday, August 25th at the University of Tulsa when they take on Bixby in the inaugural “Battle of the ‘Burbs.”
