The Menchville High School women’s basketball team made school history this year by winning the Virginia 5A State Basketball Championship.
Aaliyah Woodson is a senior, and she said her expectations of the season were to win!! You can’t beat that confidence!
Atiana Williams is a junior and a co-captain of the Lady Monarchs. She had to sit out part of the season due to major surgery following an injury. Nonetheless, she was an integral part of the championship team even from the sidelines before she returned to play.
Both girls are not only stellar athletes, they are also members of the National Honor Society, a nationwide organization for high school students who excel in the areas of academics, leadership, service and character.
Aaliyah has committed to Lynchburg College to play for their women’s basketball team, but she is still excited to watch her teammates hopefully win a repeat title next year!
Amari Smith was another co-captain who was also one of MHS’s leading scorers! She beat Quincy in a game of “757” while on set.
If there is one thing that’s for sure, it’s that you can bet on another amazing season from the lady Monarchs next year!
