A Battle of the Undefeated
The Scotlandville Hornets come into Friday’s game with a perfect 4-0 record. Max Preps rates them as the #14 ranked team in Louisiana and Louisiana Sports Writers Association ranks them #9 in Louisiana Class 5A.
The Hornets opened the season with a close 13-9 victory over Shreveport’s Captain Shreve. They followed that up with three beatdowns in a row – St. Helena College and Career Academy (57-0), 1A Southern Lab (50-13), and 5A foe Walker (54-15).
So far on the season, the Hornets have outscored their last three opponents 161-28 and by an average of 45 points per game.

The Central High Wildcats boast a similar perfect 4-0 record, but Max Preps only ranks them as the #51 team in the state. The Wildcats opened the season with three straight non-district victories over Class 4A Belarire (59-6), Class 1A Southern Lab (47-7) and Class 4A Plaquemine (21-12).

Last week, they defeated 5A district competitor Denham Springs (30-22). The Wildcats are looking for respect and a win over Scotlandville would certainly propel them up the Louisiana and Class 5A ranks.
Central won this matchup last year 30-27 and it should be another close game Friday night on the new turf at Wildcat Stadium.

Both teams are winning in a similar fashion – playing great defense, strong running games and quality play from the quarterback position.
Players to Watch: Scotlandville Hornets
Sophomore QB C’zavian Teasett (6’3″/200 lbs)
Teasett has thrown for 736 yards, 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions. His head coach Lester Ricard, who was an All-State quarterback at Amite and later starred at Tulane, says Teasett throws a beautiful ball. He already has offers from Ole Miss, Florida State and Texas A&M.
Senior 3-Star Safety Jah’von Grigsby (6’1″/175 lbs)
Recruit Louisiana scouting report – A very talented DB with excellent cover skills, very instinctive, tough/hard hitter, good body control, very good hands, excellent closing speed from his secondary position during run plays, very good field vision and focus, he specializes in PBU’s and INT. Grisby is on the 2020 Max Preps Pre Season All-State team and 2019 All-District team last season.
Grigsby is rated as the 20th best player in the state according to 24/7 sports and owns a 4.1 GPA.
He had offers from McNeese, Louisville, Indiana, UL, Vanderbilt, SMU, Auburn, Kansas, Southern, Houston, S. Alabama, Ark St, Tulane, Purdue, and Miami before committing to Michigan State.

Senior 3-Star LB/DE Braelon Hobson (6’2″/240 lbs)
Recruit Louisiana scouting report – A very agile and aggressive player that will burst off the line or the edge at the snap of the ball. He is tenacious in seeking out his target and shows continuous effort/hustle in pursuit to the whistle. He has offers from La Tech, Southern Univ., SELU, UL, ULM and McNeese State.
Junior 3-Star RB Marlon Gunn Jr. (5’11″/193 lbs)
Recruit Louisiana scouting report – Bursts through the hole with authority, has good field vision, looks to get extra yards after contact. Gunn’s 2019 Regular Season Stats include 86 carries for 1,028 yards and 12 TD’s. He has offers from Virginia, New Mexico, La Tech, Tulane, Southern Univ., and Alcorn State.

Junior 3-Star RB Chance Williams (5’9″/170 lbs)
In 2019 as a sophomore, Wiliams rushed for over 1200 yds/18 TD’s and 400 yds receiving. Recruit Louisiana scouting report – Good young athlete that works hard on his skill set to get better every day; Shows good leadership skills early, runs a 4.5-40. He has offers from South Alabama and Alcorn State.
Senior 2-Star WR Reggie King (5’11″/180 lbs)
Committed to Prairie View A&M. Offers from Grambling State and McNeese State.
Senior 2-Star Safety/DB Michael Brown (6’1″/200 lbs).
Brown has committed to McNeese State.

Senior 3-Star Safety Da’Veawn Armstead (6’1″/181 lbs)
Armstead is on the 2019 1st Team All Dist 4-5A and 2020 Max Preps Pre Season All-State team. According to Recruit Louisiana, Armstead is a physical corner that has great speed and agility in coverage, a very instinctive player.
Armstead has seven interceptions in four games. A three-year starter who had three interceptions in a win over Plaquemine.
He has offers from a slew of schools including Tulane, Arkansas St, Colorado, Indiana, UL, La Tech, ULM, McNeese, SLU, Memphis, Purdue, SMU, WKU, Houston, FAU, PVAM, Southern, HBU.

Junior QB/ATH Jonathan Swift (6’00″/180 lbs)
Swift is ranked by QBHitList as the #1 Dual Threat QB in LA C/O 2022. Recruit Louisiana says Swift played and started varsity as a true freshman He’s very athletic, a student of the game, quick on his feet and a threat to the opposing team no matter where he lines up on the field.
Swift is completing about 50% of his passes for 506 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. He threw for a season-high 186 yards against Denham Springs.

Senior RB Pierce Patterson (5’9″/170 lbs)
Central has been running the ball effectively with Patterson as the lead running back. He is not big, but he is tough as nails. Patterson is averaging nearly 8 yards a carry. Last week in a win over Denham Springs, Patterson rushed for 186 yards.
Senior DT Tyler Scott (6’1″/241 lbs)
Scott is a team leader in tackles and has forced two fumbles. Coach Sid Edwards says everyone on the team loves Scott and the emotion he brings to the field.
