Born in Queens, New York and raised in Hillside, New Jersey, Sockers goalkeeper Boris Pardo played street soccer with other kids in the neighborhood. They used rocks and trash cans as goal posts. It was nothing serious, just something to pass the time. That all changed when he began spending summers with his father’s family in Chile.
“While I was there, I played wherever I could, and I became part of a First Division Chilean club called Colo-Colo. It was an intense atmosphere, and I was hooked. I would say during those morning walks to the locker rooms is when I decided I wanted to try to get as far as I could in soccer.”
He ultimately made a career out of it. Today, he’s saving goals for the San Diego Sockers and loving every minute of it. He especially enjoys the incredible weather and beautiful beaches of Southern California.
“Everything about San Diego is amazing! I have met some amazing people here, and I’m so happy to have them in my life. This organization feels like family. That means a lot to me since none of my immediate family live anywhere near here.”
Pardo likes getting to know the fans and gaining their trust. He says their dedication is incredible, and the team feels it at every game.
“The Sockers fans are so amazing! They travel to most of the away games, some even as far as Mexico! Their support for the shield and players is unmatched throughout the league. The fans have my utmost respect.”
And for those young soccer players who want to grow up to become a professional player like him?
“It’s not about being perfect, it’s about learning and improving. Respect the game by giving 100% of yourself and collaborate with those around you in the process.”
Off the field, Pardo enjoys spending time with his boys, Cristian and Aiden. They live in Kansas City, but when he can’t see them in person, he connects with them through FaceTime as much as possible. He’s also an animal lover and huge supporter of animal rescues. He’s even fostered several dogs over the years and helped them find their forever homes.
Pardo says soccer will always be a part of his life. He currently coaches for the Rancho Santa Fe Attack, and he’s hoping to coach on the professional level after he retires as a player.
“Some of the most rewarding moments in my career have been when I positively affected the lives of the players who I have coached. Creating those great memories with people through this game is what it’s all about.”
