In one of the top games of the week in Nebraska, Omaha North will host Bellevue West on Friday. While Omaha North will be trying to avoid falling to .500, Bellevue West will be looking to continue its hot start to 2018.
The game will be broadcast live on Yurview Omaha for customers of Cox Communications and will also stream live on Yurview.com.
Repeating history
For the second straight season, Bellevue West started 7-0. This year, Bellevue West needed overtime to win in Week 1, but since then, they have outscored their opponents, 329-73, in the last six victories.
But Bellevue West is seeking a better finish to this season. Last year, they went 2-2 down the stretch and lost in the second round of the Class A playoffs.
Omaha North would love to get back to repeating history, but in order to do that, Friday is practically a must win. After going 12-1 and winning the Class A championship last season, Omaha North has started 4-3 this year.
The good news is they have begun to turn things around recently. Omaha North has won three straight and has outscored its opponents in the last three games, 104-16.
Players to Watch
WR Zavier Betts – Bellevue West
247Sports ranks Betts as a 4-star prospect and the No. 1 recruit from Nebraska in the 2020 class. He is also the No. 10 wide receiver and 64th-best player in the country.
Unsurprisingly, Betts has received an offer from Nebraska, but he also reportedly holds offers from Iowa, Minnesota, Iowa State and South Dakota State.
Betts already has more than 500 receiving yards and seven touchdowns this season.
RB Zander Gray – Omaha North
The senior back has been a standout despite the slow start for Omaha North. He already has nearly 600 rushing yards in just three games behind an average of nearly 8.0 yards per carry.
RB Javyon Ducker – Bellevue West
Ducker is a 3-star prospect, but he’s just behind Betts as the No. 3 Nebraska recruit in the 2020 class. He has reportedly received offers from Purdue, South Dakota and South Dakota State.
The junior is approaching 1,000 rushing yards and is averaging more than 6.5 yards per carry this season. He led Bellevue West to an overtime victory in Week 1 with 239 rushing yards and five touchdowns against Lincoln High.
