High school football teams are extending winning streaks and looking to get in playoff position. Athletes are breaking records and making incredible plays. The season is giving fans exactly what they desire.
Here’s a look at 10 of the top headlines entering another week of the high school football season, with a full slate of games scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 4-6.
1. University Lab keeps winning, extends streak
Last year, University Lab (La.) ended its season with a state championship. The Cubs have certainly carried that momentum over to this season.
University Lab won its 19th game in a row this past Friday, beating Zachary (La.), 49-27.
At 5-0, University Lab is halfway to an undefeated regular season. The Cubs will look to extend their winning streak to 20 when they travel to play Brusly (La.) this Friday.

2. Rattler breaks Arizona passing record
Spencer Rattler continued his remarkable high school career by breaking a record on his 18th birthday.
The 5-star Pinnacle quarterback, who is committed to Oklahoma, broke the Arizona all-time passing yards record of 10,489 this past Friday night. Rattler passed for 343 yards in a win over O’Connor (Ariz.) to break the record.
Rattler has 10,805 career passing yards. In his first three seasons, he passed for 2,381, 2,893 and 3,946 yards, respectively. This year, he has 1,585 passing yards through five games.

3. Big week for Norblade
Chase Norblade, a senior wide receiver for Papillion La Vista (Neb.) is coming off an impressive week.
Last Wednesday, he received offers from South Dakota State and Nebraska.
Then, on Friday, Norblade made a huge play in Papillion La Vista’s 42-6 win over Fremont (Neb.). Norblade made a one-handed touchdown reception that gave his team a 14-point lead at halftime.

4. Chandler returns to Super 25 rankings
Chandler (Ariz.) improved to 5-1 this past Friday night with a win over Perry (Ariz.). And now, Chandler has broken back into the USA Today Super 25 rankings.
After not being ranked last week, Chandler moved into the No. 24 spot in the poll this week. Mission Viejo (Calif.) moved into the No. 25 spot as St. Peter’s Prep (N.J.) and Bingham (Utah) fell out of the rankings.
Chandler lost its season opener against Centennial (Calif.), but has won five straight games since. Chandler was ranked No. 8 in the preseason Super 25 poll before that season-opening loss knocked it out of the rankings.

5. Deer runs across field during game
This is certainly something you don’t see most Friday nights.
This past Friday, a deer ran across the field during a game between Kings and Coupeville in Coupeville, Wash. The deer came onto the field during a kickoff, which was returned for a touchdown by Coupeville’s Sean Toomey-Stout.
However, the deer was well ahead of the action on the field, although he was running in the same direction as the returning team.

6. Matchup to watch: Westmoore vs. Broken Arrow
Broken Arrow (Okla.) looks to remain undefeated when it hosts Westmoore (Okla.) on Friday night. The game will air live on YurView and be streamed live on YurView.com.
This past Friday, Broken Arrow improved to 5-0 with a 63-7 win over Norman (Okla.).
Westmoore is 4-1 with its only loss coming against Mustang (Okla.) on Sept. 14. It is coming off a 37-6 win over Edmond Memorial (Okla.).

8. Incredible Play of the Week
Mater Dei (Calif.) notched its fourth shutout win of the season this past Friday, when it beat Servite (Calif.), 35-0, to improve to 5-1. And the Monarchs’ defense also scored an impressive touchdown.
Elias Ricks made an interception on a ball that tipped off the fingers of the receiver in front of him, then returned it for a touchdown to give Mater Dei a 21-0 lead in the second quarter.
Ricks is the No. 1 cornerback in the 2020 class, per the 247sports composite rankings.

9. Top Performance of the Week
This Texas quarterback’s crazy performance broke two state passing records, and he posted an insane stat line in a victory.
Peyton Bevel, a senior quarterback at Stamford (Texas), threw for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns in a 90-62 win over De Leon (Texas) this past Friday night. Both of those stats are state records, according to the Abilene Reporter-News.
Stamford improved to 5-0 with the victory. Bevel has passed for 1,436 yards and 23 touchdowns, with only one interception, this season.

10. Recent commitments
2019 tackle Ray Parker (Ruston High School, Ruston, La.), a 4-star recruit per the 247sports composite rankings, committed to LSU on Oct. 1.
