The Hamilton Huskies (7-2) head into their big rivalry game against the Chandler Wolves on Friday night, with one of the most explosive offenses in the state. Leading the way is the best quarterback/running back duo in the state with Tyler Shough and Jawhar Jordan.

Shough (6’5” 195 lbs), the senior signal caller, has passed for 2,454 yards, 24 td’s, and just 3 interceptions on the season. He is averaging 273 yards per game, 19.0 yards per completion, while completing 65% of his throws.

“He gets it. He’s very mature for a high school athlete. He’s got ice in his veins, and is very intelligent and competitive. Great athlete. Great arm. I have not seen a high school kid throw a deep ball like him. He is on the money. He will give you an opportunity to catch the ball.” Hamilton head coach Dick Baniszewski said.

This past summer Shough hit the national stage, competing at the Elite 11 Finals at Nike’s Opening. “It was probably the greatest experience I have ever had as a quarterback. The coaches they have there and the lessons that I learned on and off the field, it was truly a great experience.” Shough said.

Tyler had another incredible experience during the summer, when he was among 100 student-athletes selected to take a 4 day tour of Washington D.C. It was a part of U.S. Marine Corps activities after being named a Semper Fidelis All American. “It was great. I took Coach Bano with me, he was my mentor. I had a blast. We did some military regimented stuff. We did some drills, learned about the history of America. It was great to interact with a bunch of other athletes, and just hear their stories, and how they overcame adversity. We talked to some 4 star generals. It was really a great experience that I was honored to be a part of that organization.”


After receiving offers from Alabama, Michigan, Florida State, and Georgia, Tyler committed to North Carolina during the summer. The Hamilton senior, who carries a 4.4 grade point average in the classroom, had a change of heart earlier this month, after a visit to Oregon and flipped his allegiances to the Ducks.

“It was a better fit for me and my family. I really love Oregon. The school there, my mom is from there, so when the opportunity came up I had to dive into it, and see what they had to offer. The quarterback situation and the direction the program is going in, the proximity of it. I thought all around it was a better fit, and I am really looking forward to it.”

When Shough isn’t making plays with his arm for the Huskies offense, Jawhar Jordan is making plays with his legs. Jordan (5’11” 165 lbs) has rushed for 1,462 yards and 24 td’s this season, while averaging 162.4 yards per game and 10.2 yards per carry.

The senior, who has started for 3 seasons, has gained more than 200 yards in 4 different games, including a career high 297 yards versus Perry last week.

“His speed is ridiculous. His moves are great, but his vision I don’t know how he can make the moves he makes. He sees the block coming, but it’s way over here, and then go ok, I’m going to run through the middle of those 4 guys. I think it’s his innate ability and vision that allows him to do that, along with his physical tools.” Baniszewski said.

Shough adds, “He’s always a playmaker. If there’s not a hole there, he is going to make one. He will get around a guy. He’s super speedy. He makes my job a lot easier. If I’m having a bad game, I can just hand it off to him and I know he’ll do his job. I can always count on him.”

Jordan was an all state selection last year as a junior, and ran a 10.64 100 meters at the state track championships as a sophomore. He had double digit college offers including Oklahoma State, Arizona, and Missouri, but has committed to Syracuse.

“I had a great feeling about them, how head coach Dino Babers is changing things around. They upset Clemson, so that’s a good start. I’m a New York native as well. I lived in Long Island through 8th grade and moved out here for high school. I felt like it was the best choice for me and my family, to go back home and play in front of my family and friends.”

Before leaving for his native New York to continue his career, Jordan along with his Hamilton teammates, are looking to get the best of their rival Chandler one more time on Friday night. “Fierce. Very, very fierce. We know some of the guys over there. Some of them used to go to our school. It will be competitive and I can’t wait to get after it.” Jordan said. Shough adds, “It’s an intense rivalry. We all know the players down the street. Were pretty good friends with them off the field. It’s a whole lot of fun playing in those games.

It’s even more fun when you’ve won bragging rights by the end of the night.
