If you are looking for a way to keep kids active The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch in Gilbert could be the answer. The Preserve is maintained by Gilbert Parks and Recreation and has a lot to offer in the way of education and recreation.
Claude Hayes, of the Gilbert Observatory, describes it as a getaway in the middle of town. Riparian Preserve has the traditional green spaces, ramadas and picnic areas one would expect to find in a park. It also has trails for biking and horseback riding and a fishing lake. The water Audubon Site is a wonderful location to observe a variety of birds migrating throughout the year. There is a butterfly garden to enjoy by day and bullfrogs to serenade visitors at night.
To beat the heat during the summer, Hayes recommends visiting early morning or late afternoon. He suggests extending the stay to the evening on Friday or Saturday night until about 9:00 pm to use the telescope at the Gilbert Rotary Centennial Observatory. Both the park and telescope are free to the public.
Donations are welcome to offset expenses and help maintain the Preserve. The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch will keep both kids and adults active, knowledgeable and entertained.
