YurView Louisiana GameTime celebrates the 2017 regular with a huge matchup, followed up by another terrific contest the next night. Our first broadcast of a regular season game features two of the best teams in the state, Landry-Walker vs. John Curtis on Thursday, August 31st.
The Patriots are led by legendary head coach J.T. Curtis, the second winningest high school football coach in the country, with 558 victories. Curtis has won 26 state championships.
Landry-Walker won its first football title in school history last year, with an impressive 51-20 victory over West Monroe. Chargin’ Bucs Head Coach Emmanuel Powell told the GameTime Broadcast crew they want to show last year was not a fluke and defend the legacy the 2016 team built.
The 2016 team was led by Quarterback Keytaon Thompson and wide receiver Tevin Bush. Thompson is now at Mississippi State, and Bush is expected to get time with West Virginia this season.
Ja’Quan Dorsey takes over as the quarterback. Powell said he can throw the ball, but needs experience.
His main target in the passing game will be Devonta Jason, who is one of the top five players in the state. Jason had over 1,000 yards receiving.
An intriguing matchup between these state championship hopefuls is Landry-Walker’s explosive skill position players versus the Patriots physical defensive secondary.
Leading the defensive backs for Curtis is Donald Clay, a 2019 recruit that’s getting plenty of attention from SEC schools. Cade Comeaux and Brandon Davis are the other returning starters in the defensive backfield.
On the offensive side of the ball for Curtis, sophomore Collin Guggenheim is the starting quarterback after taking snaps behind center as a freshman. He has a loaded backfield led by Marquese Albert and tight end Glenn Beal is one of the top prospects in Louisiana.
Landry-Walker’s defense is led by four-star defensive back Corione Harris. The Bucs are also counting on defensive back Curry Benn and defensive lineman Josh Smith.
This game from Behrman Stadium in New Orleans, will kick-off just after 7 PM on Thursday.
The next night, the YURLA GameTime crew will be in Baton Rouge for intriguing matchup between the Dunham Tigers and the Central Wildcats.
At 6-foot-1, 230 pounds, Williams is not an easy quarterback to tackle and he’s also dominant on the defensive side of the ball at linebacker and defensive end. As a junior, Stingley is one of the most talented cornerbacks in the state. He’s also a dangerous return man and a threat as a wide receiver.
The strength of the Central team is its defensive line. Defensive end Jeff Campbell was an all-district performer last season. Fellow defensive end Kaleb Batiste is hard to block and Todd Lasseigne is a tackling machine.
